Sugar and Spice in the Fall
Don't you just love the season of fall??? It is by far one of my favorite times a year. The scenery changes giving us beautiful colors, the temperature gets a little cooler and we begin to bring out those long sleeves and sweaters. We also get some of the most gorgeous sunsets that Mother Nature can provide in those golden hours that are dwindling down before winter.
Earlier this month I was honored to photograph the Wilson family from Louisville, KY. They made the drive leaving as the sun came up just to have me photograph their beautiful, little family. I was forewarned Miss Lor was more spice than sugar and just to get any photos of her even looking at the camera would be considered a win. I knew the cards might be stacked against me, but I am also not your typical, everyday photographer. You see what many people may not realize is I am a mother of 3 with two of my kiddos have different disabilities. I also have over 7 years of experience working with children on a day to day basis. There isn't much a small child can throw at me that I haven't already figured out! Needless to say when I was given the challenge, I confidently accepted it!
Mis Lor was not exactly "in the mood" to talk with me at first just like most kids. I was a stranger and was holding something she didn't recognize. I broke the ice with her by playing peek-a-boo around the camera which got her to play along with me. She finally gelled with me within 10 minutes when I showed her how my camera worked and explained about my cool frog that hides in the lens. Then we went frog hunting near the pond and found some live ones! I had her hooked!
For the rest of the session we played games of hide and seek. She swung and did tickle wars with her mom and dad, made faces, threw her head back and covered her eyes in moments that could not be timed any more perfectly. She was simply her perfect little self which is all anyone could ever ask for!
Her mom had this to share on our Facebook page: "Thank you April Sova for these amazing photographs. We traveled To Cincinnati for them and it was a worth every mile with a grumpy toddler. Thanks Remember When Portraits LLC!" For the record, Miss Lor wasn't grumpy at all. She was merely living up to all the sugar and spice that she has been given in her little life. I loved working with her and her family to capture the photographs they were wanting. Remember, it isn't always about capturing what you think will be the perfect photo, but instead capturing the moment perfectly!
Here is a quick video ad we made out of their session. I hope you enjoy it!
